Beerenberg starts exporting Random Acts of Flavour range to Texas

Established in 1839, the six-generation family-owned Beerenberg Family Farm business, located in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, is renowned for growing strawberries, which it has done since the early 1970s.

A thriving tourist destination and manufacturer of jams, chutneys, sauces and dressings, Beerenberg export to 26 countries and service major retail supermarket groups, hotels and airlines.

Now, Beerenberg is exporting its Random Acts of Flavour range to the United States following an export deal with Central Market (a speciality grocery sub-brand of HEB comprising 350 stores with revenue of US$29 billion per year), as a result of the Department for Trade and Investment’s Americas Houston, Texas based office, liaising with Central Market to pitch South Australian products.

The pitching presentation, coordinated by the Department for Trade and Investment, in partnership with Food SA, saw Central Market select nine South Australian exporters to supply products for its stores, with the first deals worth approximately US$150,000.

Beerenberg’s range in the US will include spicy relishes, fruit chutneys and sweet-heat jams.

“Central Market gives us the opportunity to explore the Texas market which we have long thought offers huge opportunity for premium brands,” said Sally Paech, Marketing Director at Beerenberg.

“HEB that owns Central Market, is a huge opportunity with 350 stores and their own distribution centre. Our goal, as we test our range designed especially for the US market, is to have one shipping container a week leaving the Adelaide Hills bound for the US market.”

Beerenberg aims to build upon its current export customers as the country comes out of the grips of COVID-19.

“Saudi Arabia and other Arab states have become a major focus during the COVID-19 period, and we are excited about building that relationship,” Ms Paech continued. “The UK market has always held our interest and we hope sometime in the future to put a similar program together, as we have in the US.”
