SA’s top drops hit South Korean market

13 Oct 2022
South Australia’s premium wines will hit the shelves of South Korea’s largest and most established luxury department store chain, Shinsegae, this week as part of a new distribution campaign launching in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Government launched the new South Australian wine distribution campaign in Seoul this week, creating a gateway into the Market and making our State synonymous with wine in South Korea.

The campaign launch coincides with Premier Peter Malinauskas and Trade and Investment Minister Nick Champion’s visit to South Korea as part of an extensive trade mission promoting investment into multiple South Australian industries.

South Australian wines will be showcased in 50 Shinsegae owned ‘Wine and More’ stores across South Korea, where department stores feature as one of the top three sales channels for wines sold direct to consumers.

South Korea has huge potential as an emerging wine market for South Australia, with its wine drinking population increasing from 10.2 million semi-annual drinkers of imported grape-based wine, in 2017, to 112.6 million in 2022.

Consumption frequency has consistently risen since 2019, with 43 per cent now buying wine at least weekly.
