Wine Exporter Retail Visit and Networking Function - Shenzhen

The Department for Trade and Investment (DTI) is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from wine exporters to participate in a Wine Trade Day in Shenzhen, China following VinExpo on 31st May 2024, to engage with key retailers, importers, sommeliers and key opinion leaders.
 
With the tariff for wine being removed 29 March 2024, DTI will host a dedicated event to key importers, distributors, and retailers in Shenzhen.

Retail Visit

Overview 
  • Tailored wine focused retail visit for South Australian wine exporters. 
  • Visit leading retailers for wine in Shenzhen: Ole Supermarket and Sam’s Club.
Venue
  • Sam’s Club HQ- Shenzhen 
  • Ole Supermarket HQ-Shenzhen
Logistics
DTI will arrange a bus for all SA producers to join the retail visit.

Networking Function

Overview 
  • Networking and engagement with Wine Importers, Retailers, Sommelier, and key opinion leaders. 
  • Semi-formal networking event 
  • China market experience sharing by key speakers: 
    • Leading South Australian Winery 
    • Key retailer 
    • Sommelier
  • Selected South Australian wines and spirits for tasting and sharing. 
  • Cocktail reception with Cocktail made with South Australian Spirits 
  • 40-50 pax

  • Wine Bar in Shenzhen

Why you should participate 
 
With a population of 14 million, and one of the top tier cities in China, Shenzhen is adjacent to Hong Kong, located only 15 minutes away by a high-speed train, where leading retailers’ headquarters and key online platforms are situated. Shenzhen is also known as a key concentration area for boutique wine bars and wine bistros.  
 
Eligibility Criteria 

  • Wine and spirit exporters who are new to market or existing exporting to mainland China.
  • Export ready and able to organise samples that can be displayed at the trade day.
  • Have a valid ABN registered in South Australia. 
  • Ability to supply marketing material (physical and digital- preferably in Chinese) to support promoting your business at the event. 
  • Have your own staff and/or in-market representatives onsite. 

Additional wine eligibility criteria 

  • Price points:  AUD RRP $20+
  • Award Rating: 90+ point rating from internationally known wine writers/awards.
  • Regionality: Wines must be GI Specific
  • ESG:  strong sustainability credentials preferred.
  • Style: Low or no alcohol wines encouraged 

Participation costs 
 
The Department will support South Australian wine, and spirit companies to participate in this initiative. Limited spaces are available.
  
 Participants will be responsible for arranging and covering the following costs: 

  • Flights and accommodation  
  • Transfers and transport not outlined as provided by DTI in the official program
  • Travel insurance 
  • Meals (some meals will be included in the official program)
  • Product samples and storage costs
  • Freight and clearance costs
The Department does not accept any liability or responsibility for products lost or damaged during shipping or not clearing customs.
